For the 2018/19 season, The Packrafting Association of NZ (PRANZ) is organising a series of mini-meetups around the country.
To find out more about the dates and locations of the mini-meetups, check out the PRANZ facebook page.
These meetups are for autonomous Packrafters, they are not safety courses or for people who have never packrafted before. You’re expected to bring all your own packrafting and safety equipment, food and suitable clothing for the location and conditions. See this page for places to buy/hire gear.
The PRANZ volunteer who organises the mini-meetup does the job of setting the venue and facilitating people into groups appropriate to their skill levels. A trip leader will be appointed, but these are not guided trips; you need to have the basics all sorted and take responsibility for your own safety! The minimum skill sets to participate are on page 11 of the PRANZ Safety Management Plan.. If you don’t have the skills, then you should go on a whitewater safety course, or get friends to help you learn the basics.
To attend a meetup, you’ll need to join PRANZ your membership fee makes you a member of the Federated Mountain Clubs and Whitewater New Zealand; the two parent organisations for Tramping and Paddling, who advocate on our behalf to preserve and protect the recreational opportunities we enjoy through packrafting.
